Best 1080p 144hz Monitor

Now, honestly, finding the best monitor in a good price range is not going to be difficult. But like I have said it before, the market is not short of amazing offerings, which results in the consumers being confused as to what they should buy.

This roundup is here; to clear out any confusion, so you can buy the monitor that you want.

#1 – AOC 24G2

– Specifications:

  • 24-inch panel with FHD resolution.
  • IPS panel.
  • FreeSync support.
  • 144Hz refresh rate with 1ms response time.
  • 3-sided frameless design.
  • Height-adjustable stand.

– Advantages:

  • The monitor brings excellent value to the table.
  • The colors are vibrant and accurate across the board.
  • You are getting a fully ergonomic design.
  • There are a lot of gaming features included, like FreeSync and 1ms response time.

– Drawbacks:

  • A joystick for OSD would have been better for navigation.
  • Brightness is locked to 90% when in sRGB mode.

It should not come as a surprise anymore that AOC monitors have managed to make quite a name for themselves in the market. If you are looking for good quality monitors that have great performance through and through, then these are the ones that can get the job with ease.

It does not matter if you want something on the more affordable end or you are just in the mood to splurge, AOC has got you covered, and with the AOC 24G2, we are looking at a great monitor that is available at an even better price tag. Is it good? Well, that is what we are about to find out.

To start with all the things that we love, the great thing here is that the monitor gives you excellent value for money. You simply cannot go wrong with this monitor because of the price. However, that is not all; you are getting excellent colors that are also vibrant and accurate for almost all the tasks.

In addition to that, you are getting access to a design that is fully ergonomic, and you will have a much simpler and better time as well, at least as far as the monitor is concerned. Moving forward, the monitor has a lot of gaming-oriented features included, such as access to FreeSync, as well as 1ms response time.

Sadly, with so much to appreciate in this monitor, there are a few things that are not up to the par. For instance, there’s no joystick for OSD navigation; instead, you are given buttons that end up making the experience a bit clunky. In addition to that, the brightness is locked to 90% when you are in the sRGB mode.

– Author Note:

If you are looking for a good monitor in general, you can get your hands on the AOC 24G2 as it is one of the best monitors available and will deliver excellent performance across the board, and that too, without any hiccups.

#2 – Asus VG259Q

– Specifications:

  • 24.5-inch display with full HD resolution.
  • 1ms response time and 144Hz refresh rate.
  • Extreme low motion blur (ELMB)
  • Asus Shadow Boost Technology.
  • Supports both G-Sync and FreeSync.
  • IPS panel.

– Advantages:

  • The colors are consistent and accurate.
  • Great stand design.
  • Loaded with gaming features such as FreeSync and ELMB.
  • Low pixel response time for a wonderful gaming experience.

– Drawbacks:

  • You will need some color calibration for the best possible picture quality.

Asus has no shortage of excellent monitors, and that is something that we have experienced multiple times. Whether you are looking at their ROG series of monitors, their ROG Strix series of monitors, or their TUF series of monitors, Asus knows what’s up and how to do it.

However, the company has more monitors than just the three series mentioned above. This means that you are never really short of options, and that is what we are looking at here, as well. The Asus VG259Q is the monitor that you should be going for if you want something good and uncompromising.

Despite being one of the more affordable monitors, it brings accurate and consistent colors in all situations and has one of the most ergonomic designs I have managed to see in a monitor, which is always a good thing. You are getting loads of gaming features such as FreeSync as well as ELMB, and the fast pixel response time is great to have, as well. It is safe to say that your gaming experience is going to be unfazed.

After using the monitor for some time, I can tell you that the only issue that I have with this monitor is that it will require some calibration to get the optimal picture quality. Other than that, the monitor is perfect in almost every sense of the way.

– Author Note:

Honestly, finding a good gaming monitor is not something that is going to be difficult. You can find a lot of great monitors with ease, and the purpose of this article is to make sure that you are getting the best possible one, as well.

The Asus VG259Q is a monitor that will surprise a lot of us because, at the given price, you are getting plenty of features that even I was not expecting.

Everything ranging from support for both G-Sync and FreeSync is available, and considering how you are looking at 144Hz of refresh rate goodness, it is going to be very difficult for one to look the other way and not pick this monitor.

The only issue here is that it requires a bit of calibration, but that should never really come in the way of how good it performs overall.

#3 – ViewSonic XG2402

– Specifications:

  • Full-HD Resolution.
  • Ultra-fast 1ms response time.
  • AMD FreeSync Premium support.
  • Fully adjustable ergonomic stand.
  • RGB backlighting.
  • 144Hz refresh rate.

– Advantages:

  • You are getting an affordable monitor.
  • FreeSync support is great to have.
  • 144Hz refresh rate is always a blessing.
  • RGB lighting on the back panel adds character.
  • The image quality is great with accurate colors.

– Drawbacks:

  • The construction is largely plastic.
  • The bezels are on the thicker side.

One of the companies that have served as a staple in the monitor market happens to be ViewSonic, all thanks to their excellent monitors that cater to the users of all types. The monitors that are made by ViewSonic are excellent, and whether you want something affordable or something that is top of the line, they have you covered.

With that said, the ViewSonic XG2402 is the one that we are looking at today, and it is one of the monitors that manages to stand out of the crowd, even if it is just a bit. However, that does not mean that the monitor is not good enough. So, you are certainly looking at something good.

For starters, the monitor delivers an excellent price, which may as well become the selling point for this monitor. But that is not all since we are getting more than that here. In addition to that, you have support for AMD FreeSync, so if you do want to use that technology, you should have a much easier time here.

You are also getting a fast 144Hz refresh rate, which makes this monitor even better, and there is some RGB lighting on the back panel as well, making this monitor slightly fancier than what other companies are offering.

Last but not the least, the overall image quality and colors are both good and accurate, at the same time. This is a struggle that I face with monitors all the time, but thankfully, it is not an issue here.

As far as the downsides are concerned, I do have to mention that the monitor is largely made out of plastic, and it is very evident. Not just that, you are also looking at thicker than normal bezels. Therefore, this is something that you must keep in mind.

– Author Note:

If you are honestly searching for a great monitor that is known for delivering great performance, getting the ViewSonic XG2402 is the right thing to do as it is one of the finest options that are available, and that too, without any compromises that may come your way.

#4 – ASUS VG279Q

– Specifications:

  • 27-inch panel with FHD resolution.
  • IPS panel.
  • 1ms response time with 144Hz refresh rate.
  • Exclusive GameVisual and Game Plus functions.
  • FreeSync support.
  • Shadow Boost feature.

– Advantages:

  • The colors are vibrant, and viewing angles are excellent.
  • You are getting a lot of features, including FreeSync and 1ms response time.
  • The stand is fully adjustable and ergonomic.
  • The input lag stays at the lowest with an excellent response time.

– Drawbacks:

  • The pixel density takes a hit.
  • No gamma or hue settings.

Asus is just one of many companies that constantly make the rounds of lists such as this. After all, their massive portfolio of monitors is only fair to us, and considering how we are looking at the 144Hz refresh rate monitors, Asus should be featured, or otherwise, it would be wrong to the company and the legacy they have made.

With that said, the monitor that we are looking at today is the ASUS VG279Q, and it is something that should be more than satisfying on a lot of fronts. It is not that expensive, but it does bring a larger screen-size. But is it any good? That is what we are going to find out.

For starters, you are getting wide viewing angles and impressively vibrant colors. You have access to features such as 1ms response time and FreeSync, at the same time. Asus has done an excellent job with the stand as well since it is fully adjustable and very easy to handle at the same time.

Not just that, the monitor also delivers some of the better gamer-oriented features such as low input lag, as well as quick response time, which is an excellent feature, and you should a great experience for anyone who wants a good monitor.

Sadly, the downsides include having a lower pixel density due to the larger screen size, and in addition to that, we also happen to have a lack of gamma and hue settings.

– Author Note:

As far as the monitors are concerned, Asus has never really shied away from some of the best monitors that are in the market. The ASUS VG279Q is no different, either.

Granted, it is not the flagship monitor that most of us would have hoped for, but if you are looking for excellent performance overall, then this monitor is something that you should be looking into. The monitor does not let down in a lot of ways, which is excellent, to say the least.

#5 – Acer ED273

– Specifications:

  • 27-inch screen curved screen.
  • Full HD resolution.
  • VA panel.
  • Fully supports G-Sync and FreeSync.
  • 144Hz refresh rate.
  • HDMI and DisplayPort support.

– Advantages:

  • The contrast ratio is excellent.
  • You are getting G-Sync compatibility.
  • The built-in speakers are a nice addition.

– Drawbacks:

  • The pixel density is on the lower side.
  • The stand only offers to tilt.
  • There is some ghosting in the games, especially in the darker areas.

There is no denying that Acer has given us some of the best monitors available in the market, whether they are looking for something that is only for gamers, or you are looking for something that is going to fit you well with all sorts of usage. Acer has you covered as they deliver some fine gaming monitors in the market.

With that said, the Acer Gaming Monitor or (ED273A) is one of the better options that we have available in the market from Acer, and it actually delivers great performance, and the best part is that you are not going to be let down in any case, and you will be getting a great performance through and through.

With that said, this monitor is great when you are looking at something that has a higher contrast ratio. The colors on this monitor are excellent in every single way, and you will not be having any problems. Not just that, you are getting access to G-Sync compatibility, and the performance remains excellent across the board.

The monitor also ships with built-in speakers, and while they are not the most powerful, if you are looking for something good, this is certainly a good monitor that you should be looking into.

With so much to like about this monitor, there are some downsides, as well. For starters, the lower pixel density is one thing that you should be careful about, and the fact that the monitor only has a tilt-only stand is a letdown. Last but not the least, there is moderate ghosting in games, especially when you are looking at the darker areas of the screen.

– Author Note:

Finding the right monitor is not something that is going to be a difficult ordeal, but the point here is to look at something that delivers great performance nonetheless. The Acer Gaming Monitor is one of the best options that you can get your hands on at the time of writing.

True, it does run into some issues, but these issues don’t let the monitor be judged that harshly as the monitor does deliver some really good performance across the board as well.

#6 – LG 34GL750-B

– Specifications:

  • G-Sync and FreeSync support.
  • 34-inch ultra-wide display.
  • IPS panel with 1ms response time.
  • Motion blur reduction.
  • 144Hz refresh rate.
  • HDR10 compatible.

– Advantages:

  • The monitor offers a quick response time.
  • The input lag is at the lowest, and you are also getting a high refresh rate.
  • There are a lot of gaming features, including FreeSync and motion blur reduction.
  • You are also getting a height-adjustable stand.
  • The colors are vibrant, and the viewing angles are excellent.

– Drawbacks:

  • The pixel density is subpar.
  • HDR is a software-only feature.

LG has been delivering great monitors for some time now, and the best part is that their monitors or their TVs are great in almost every single way. Which means that you are not losing out on anything. To be honest, LG has been consistently delivering great monitors for some time now, and it has not changed either.

The one that I am looking at right now is the LG 34GL750-B, we have looked at this monitor in our other reviews as well, and it has managed to make itself show up once more. It makes sense because the monitor does deliver a lot of excellence in a compelling package.

The monitor offers a quick response time and low input lag. You are also getting access to a higher refresh rate. LG is aware of how the monitor market is largely catering to gamers, because of which, this monitor ships with features such as FreeSync as well as 1ms response time and motion blur reduction.

The height-adjustable stand is great to have, and the monitor offers wide viewing angles as well as vibrant colors that should be able to help you get a great overall experience.

Sadly, with so many good things, there are a few quirks. The HDR feature is software-only, and the low pixel density on this monitor could make some people choose other alternatives.

– Author Note:

Anyone who wants to get their hands on a good monitor and that too, without spending a lot of money, the LG 34GL750-B is an excellent offering that you should be looking at. The monitor deserves an excellent experience in almost every case and will certainly not let you down, either.

Just be sure that you are aware of the minor inconveniences that can come in the way, but aside from that, the monitor is excellent in every single way and will allow for one of the best gaming experiences that you can hope for.

#7 – BenQ ZOWIE

– Specifications:

  • 144Hz refresh rate.
  • 1ms response time.
  • 24-inch TN panel.
  • Full HD resolution.
  • Exclusive Color Vibrance and eQualizer technology.
  • Multiple connectivity options.

– Advantages:

  • The low input lag and quick response time are a treat to have.
  • The motion blur reduction technology is well-implemented and works nicely.
  • The design is fully ergonomic.
  • 144Hz refresh rate is a joy to use.

– Drawbacks:

  • There is no support for AMD FreeSync or Nvidia G-Sync.
  • The viewing angles are narrow, thanks to a TN panel at play.

There is no denying that when you are talking about good monitors in general, one of the companies that manage to dish out some pretty interesting products happen to be BenQ, as their monitors are always respectable, and they don’t cost a lot of money, either. However, BenQ does make some higher-end monitors as well if you are looking to get those.

With that said, the BenQ ZOWIE XL2411P is the monitor that we are looking at; simply put, their monitors have managed to make quite a buzz. This is one of the more affordable offerings, and the best part is that it does not disappoint in the majority of ways, especially when you are looking at the price.

For starters, the low input lag and great response time are two of the best things about this monitor. If you truly want something that will deliver good performance, this monitor is a great one. In addition to that, you are also getting access to a fast 144Hz refresh rate, and not just that, to keep the motion blur in control, BenQ has implemented an excellent motion blur reduction technology.

Moving on, you have a design that is fully ergonomic, that allows you to adjust the monitor the way you want to, and that too, without any issues coming your way.

Sadly, while the monitor is excellent in almost every way, there are a few issues that you will have to come to terms with. For starters, the monitor does not have support for any AMD FreeSync, and the viewing angles are narrower thanks to the TN panel being used in the monitor.

– Author Note:

Honestly, I was not expecting a lot from the BenQ ZOWIE XL2411P simply because it is one of the more affordable monitors in the market, and while I am not against the idea of affordable monitors, I also know that they can be a hit and miss.

Thankfully, the BenQ ZOWIE XL2411P does deliver good performance as far as an excellent value for money and 144Hz is concerned, but the lack of adaptive sync is a problem that most people might want.

#8 – LG 27GL650F-B

– Specifications:

  • Supports G-Sync.
  • 27-inch IPS panel.
  • 144Hz refresh rate.
  • 1ms response time.
  • Motion blur reduction technology.
  • HDR10 compatible.

– Advantages:

  • Offers a fast 144Hz refresh rate.
  • Bright and accurate colors.
  • Brings Nvidia 6-Sync to the table.
  • Great viewing angles.
  • Fast response time.

– Drawbacks:

  • None at the given price.

We are heading closer to the end of our list, but we still got a couple of monitors to look at. With that said, LG is not something that should be a surprising company to anyone who is in the market for a good monitor. They have excellent offerings available for anyone who wants to get a good experience overall.

With that said, the LG 27GL650F-B is the monitor that we are looking at today, and well, it certainly is one of the best monitors available for anyone who is looking to get a good gaming experience. However, is it any good? That is what we are going to be figuring out.

For starters, one of the best things about this monitor is that it has one of the best performance in terms of refresh rate as it offers up to 144Hz refresh rate, which is excellent for gaming. Not just that, the monitor is excellent when you are discussing the color accuracy and also pretty bright, thanks to the HDR10 support.

The monitor also brings Nvidia G-Sync on the table, and while in many cases, it is not needed in a 1080p monitor, having such a feature is always a welcomed sight. The viewing angles are pretty impressive, and I love how the monitor has a relatively fast response time for an IPS panel.

As far as the downsides are concerned, I honestly did not run into any problems as far as the monitor is concerned. Everything worked the way it was supposed to, and we didn’t have any issues, either.

– Author Note:

There is no denying that LG has made strides as far as the display market is concerned. The offerings they have are excellent in every regard. Therefore, if you are looking to get your hands on a solid monitor, you are going to get the LG 27GL650F-B as it delivers exceptionally well-balanced performance at a great price.

You are getting a faster refresh rate as well as support for G-Sync, and not to forget, HDR10, as well. The monitor is excellent and is not going to let you down at all. I can assure you that this monitor is definitely what you should be looking at.

Notable Mention #1 – Sceptre

– Specifications:

  • 1800R curvature.
  • 27-inch panel.
  • 144Hz refresh rate.
  • AMD FreeSync support.
  • Support for HDMI and DisplayPort.
  • Dynamic Contrast Enhancement.

– Advantages:

  • The contrast ratio is impressively high.
  • The deep blacks look excellent.
  • Supports 144Hz refresh rate.
  • AMD FreeSync support over both HDMI and DisplayPort.

– Drawbacks:

  • The stand is tilt-only.
  • There is ghosting visible in faster-paced scenes.

The last monitor on our list is something that I did not expect because before getting to the review part, I was not even aware of the company’s existence, but it does and does so in a great way.

I am talking about the Sceptre; they are known for making affordable gaming monitors that have a lot of features and, at the same time, do not cost a lot of money, either.

With that said, the monitor that we are looking at is the Sceptre C275B-144R, it is one of their smaller sized offering in the market, but for those wondering, they do offer other monitors in the market as well, so you are not losing out on anything here.

Now, the great thing about this monitor is that you are getting access to high contrast ratio on this monitor, which results in some of the best blacks that you can ask for. Not just that, the performance is one of the smoothest that we have experienced, all thanks to the 144Hz refresh rate.

You are also getting support for AMD FreeSycn over both HDMI and DisplayPort, which is always a good thing to have.

Sadly, the monitor does cut costs in several places; for starters, you are getting a tilt-only stand. You are also getting to experience visible ghosting in fast-paced scenes, especially in the darker environments, which might be a concern for some people.

– Author Note:

After spending some time with the Sceptre C275B-144R, I can honestly say that the monitor is a lot more impressive than I first thought. Granted, it does not look like a monitor that can deliver you that level of performance, but in general, it does deliver excellent performance for the price you are paying.

You do run into the usual issues that you have commonly seen in affordable monitors, but that does not really stop this monitor from delivering a fantastic overall experience, and you would be glad to know that you are buying something that is excellent in every sort of the way.

Just be sure that you are aware of what this monitor is offering, and you would be all good.

Features You Should Consider In A Best 1080P 144Hz Gaming Monitor

Now that we are done going through all the monitors in the market, the next step is to start looking at just how you can buy the best monitor for your needs. The process is not going to be difficult, but the good news is that you are going to get a great overall experience and find the right monitor for your needs.

Related stuff:

Different Panel Types

It is safe to say that at this point that when buying a new monitor, you will have to know the different panel types that are available in the market. The most common ones happens to be IPS, TN, and VA panels. But if you are looking for the monitor with the best viewing angles, you can look at the IPS panel, as it also offers you the best color accuracy.

Then you have the TN panels that are excellent with their refresh rate and low response time but average color accuracy. Last but not the least, you have access to VA panels which are somewhere in the middle.

G-Sync Or FreeSync?

Moving on, you are going to take a look at what sort of adaptive sync you are going to go for. The most common one happens to be G-Sync as well as FreeSync, and it is important to understand that choosing the right technology is important.

G-Sync or FreeSync

G-Sync is best suited when you own an Nvidia GPU and want to pair a monitor that has G-Sync support so you can get a tear-free gaming experience.

On the other hand, you have AMD FreeSync that is exclusive to AMD GPUs. However, there is a mixed breed of monitors available in the market that primarily supports FreeSync but is also compatible with G-Sync, in case you wish to change things in the future.

Refresh Rates & Response Time

Whenever you are getting your hands on a new monitor, you will have to know that there are a lot of different options available in the market. However, finding a monitor with a high refresh rate is an important thing. You need to get a monitor that offers a good refresh rate because anything below 100Hz at the moment is not enjoyable, especially if you truly want to enjoy your gaming experience.

Image example of High Refresh Rate

As far as the response time is concerned, you are going to want to spend money on a monitor that has the lowest response time of 1ms, so you do not run into any problems as far as the overall experience is concerned.

Screen Size & Aspect Ratio

I know it might not concern a lot of people but having the correct screen size and aspect ratio are two of the most important things whenever you are buying a new monitor. I understand that most of the times, people don’t pay attention, but you must be looking at everything.

Monitor Screen Sizes Comparison

For a 1080p monitor, screen size ranging from 24 to 27-inch makes perfect sense since it looks good without the pixel density issue coming in the way. As far as the aspect ratio is concerned, the most common aspect ratio happens to be 16:9, but you might run into some of the monitors with a 21:9 aspect ratio as well, especially if you are looking at an ultra-wide monitor.

The Resolution

Resolution is one of those factors that one should never overlook for the simplest reason that when you are getting a new monitor, it should have a good enough resolution, or else you are left with no real option.

All the monitors that we have listed here are full HD or, in other words, 1080p, so you should not have any problems as far as the resolution is concerned.

Every Important Port You Need

Once you are done with making that decision, the last thing that one must always keep in mind is the type of ports you are going to get access to whenever you are buying a new monitor. You will run into countless options.

Ports of TUF GAMING VG259QR

However, if you ask me, the simplest thing that you should do is look for a monitor that has support for both DisplayPort and HDMI. These are the two ports that you are going to need the most, and in addition to that, you can look for audio jacks or USB ports if your use case is along those lines.

My Final Verdict:

Finding the right monitor is not at all challenging. We have so many options available nowadays that you can just pick whatever you wish to pick, and you will be done with it in no time.

However, finding the wrong monitor can be an issue, and that is why we are here to help. With this roundup, we have tried to make it easier for anyone who wants to get their hands on a solid monitor, and we have listed some of the finest options, too.

So, you really will not have any problems as far as the overall process is going to be concerned. You can find the right monitor with ease, and you will not have any issues that might come in the way, either.

Question 2: What GPU is 1080p 144Hz?

A GPU does not become suitable for a resolution, to be honest. However, you can find any good RTX 2000 or 3000 series GPU, and you will realize that they are excellent for gaming at 1080p and getting 144Hz frames per second as well.

144Hz is a refresh rate, and 1ms is a response time. Both of these factors are not directly proportional to each other and are completely independent of the one and the other. However, most of the monitors that we have listed here do support 144Hz refresh rate with a 1ms response time.

Question 5: Is 1080p still good in 2023?

Technically, the HDMI 1.4 is the spec for running 144Hz refresh rate at 1080p. Sadly, many monitors don’t work that way and are limited to 120Hz, as that can be another aspect. However, if you are looking for a good monitor, look for HDMI 1.4 or higher, and look for DisplayPort.
